Reach for the Stars

Reception Starters 2025

Reception Transition (new to school Reception starters and our nursery Reception starters, look to see which events apply to your child)

Starting school, we know is a big deal, so we have made sure that we have a gradual process to support the transition. The details of these are below.

Children attend our Reception setting from a wide catchment area. Most children have previously attended our Nursery provision, but there are some who join us from other Nurseries. Our Reception staff work closely with each Nursery to obtain information about each child, wherever possible, we will go and visit the children in the Nursery settings (if you prefer this to a home visit) during the Summer term before starting in Reception.

Transition Events

Step 1- Welcome party (24th April 2025 3:30-4:30pm)

This event is to officially welcome you to Henry Bradley. This is the first time that your child can meet their new class mates and you can meet other parents.

Step 2- DOJO System set up (Week commencing 2nd June)

The new classes will be set up on our school communication system called Class Dojo. Staff will do this by using your phone number. You will receive a notification text to ask you to set this up. If you struggle with this, please let staff know at the information session and we will do our best to help you. Photos of staff, the classrooms and other information will be posted on there. On your child’s first day, photos will be put on there so that you can see your little treasure on this momentous occasion. We will continue to use dojo to share information with you throughout your child’s time with us.

Step 3- Parent information sessions ( June 11th 9:15-10:15am and June 12th 3:30-4:30pm)

ALL PARENTS WELCOME INCLUDING OUR CURRENT NURSERY CHILDREN

These sessions are to give you information about what to expect as your child starts our school.

This session will provide you with;

  • information about the organisation of your child’s day
  • Key staff who can help you
  • uniform details and other things that they may need,
  • Opportunity to meet the staff
  • Information about which class your child will be in.

You only need to attend one of these sessions, the content will be the same. We wanted to give you a choice of times/day to accommodate as many parents as possible.

Step 4- Home/setting visits to your child (week commencing 16th June and week commencing 23rd June)

This step only applies to new to the setting children ONLY, not Henry Bradley Nursery Children.

These are optional but we do feel that these help the children to settle quicker and really help to develop the relationship between you, your child and the staff. We will organise these with you at the parent information session.

Step 5: Stay and Play for new to the setting children ONLY (19th June 3:30-4:30pm)

This is just for the new to our school Reception children to come and join us with you after all of the children have gone home to give them the opportunity to get to know their new setting and the staff in a small group. There will be refreshments available. We want you to make yourselves at home!

Step 6- Transition sessions (your children to join us without you)

  • Tuesday 1st July 9:30-12pm  (New to the setting children ONLY, not Henry Bradley Nursery Children) to join their new class. This will include having their lunch here.
  • Tuesday 1st July 1pm-3:05pm  – (Henry Bradley Nursery Children ONLY) to join their new class, parents to collect from the new class. If your child is in the morning session, you have the option for them to stay for lunch, rather than going home to come back. Please let a Nursery staff member know.

Step 7 - Summer Fayre 11am-2ish (Saturday 5th July)

This is not really a transition event, but it may be nice to spend some time at the school to allow them to become more familiar with the building and the grounds and see some of the staff.

Step 8-Summer Stay and Play 10am-12pm (Saturday 9th August)

ALL CHILDREN INVITED

All of the new Reception children are invited to join us on a Saturday in the summer holidays with their new teacher. This will give your child the opportunity to meet with other children that will be in their class and give you opportunity to speak and meet with the other parents.  Refreshments will be available. This may have to take place outside as the school is having a full rewire in the holidays so we are not sure what state the classroom/school will be in at that point. If this is the case, the date will be weather permitting.

FINAL STEP- First day at school (Monday 8th September)

TODAY IS THE DAY! YOUR CHILD’S FIRST DAY AT SCHOOL! I know this is easier said than done, but try not to worry, we promise to look after your baby!
