Music

Music at Henry Bradley

We are very lucky to have a music specialist at our school. Our music specialist has taken the Chris Quigley curriculum principles and has used these to create an ambitious and progressive music curriculum that teaches the children the skills and knowledge to be a musician.

Intent

At Henry Bradley we believe that every child has the ability to become a musician. A musician is an artist that performs, creates and communicates meaning and evokes emotions and ideas through sound.

Our intent is;

i) To create original, imaginative, fluent and distinctive compositions.

ii) To respond critically to pieces of music they hear by giving verbal explanations using musical terminology, effectively, accurately and appropriately.

iii) To widen the children’s ‘cultural capital’ so they have the vital knowledge to be informed and thoughtful members of their own community, the wider world and to understand British values through listening and responding to a wide style and genres of music.

Implementation

The Henry Bradley Music Curriculum has been designed with four threshold concepts in mind. These underpin all the children’s learning in music.

These are;

  • Perform
  • Transcribe
  • Compose
  • Describe music.
