In KS1, we cover an engaging and exciting range of topics and learning styles to ignite a positive relationship with learning.

    Autumn 1:

This half term is first about settling the children back into school life, which Owls have done exceptionally well. Across the curriculum we will be building on what they learnt in Y1, addressing misconceptions and challenging their thinking.

    • Maths - place value, addition & subtraction of two digit numbers.
    • English - appropriate adjectives, extended writing, character descriptions and introducing conjunctions.
    • Science - understanding the 'why'; what do plants and animals need to survive?

We believe in learning both inside and outside of the classroom, this half term will see us take a historical trip to Chesterfield, helping to understand where we live. We will be attending three sporting events ran by Qualitas Sport, giving the chance to access different sports in different environments.

Please see our class newsletter for more on our subjects for this term.

    PE

PE is on a THURSDASY afternoon, children are to come to school in their PE kit:

    • Joggers or leggings
    • Polo T-shirt
    • Jumper or Cardigan
    • Long hair to be tied up
    • Jewellery to be removed (if possible) or covered

We deliver our PE programme following GetSet4PE, giving students access to a wider range of sports. We also have opportunities for afterschool clubs in multi sports, gymnastics and more.

    PHONICS

Students are to follow the Monster Phonics programme. We tailor the lessons to ensure ALL children are getting exactly what they need from the programme and our teachers.
