Nursery Starters 2023

Nursery Transition

Starting Nursery can be daunting for all involved. At Henry Bradley Nursery Infant School, we work closely with our parents to ensure this is a smooth process through a gradual approach.

For those children starting in our Nursery it is a huge step, and an important part of their learning journey. Before children start with us, our Nursery staff offer home visits/setting visits in This is the perfect opportunity for positive relationships to be established in the comfort of your child's familiar environment

Step 1: Parent Information Session

We will be holding an information meeting for adults on Wednesday 28th June  where we will discuss the Nursery curriculum, the daily routine, uniform, distribute forms and explain starting arrangements for September. You will also have the opportunity to look around the Nursery setting and meet the staff.

There are 2 times to choose from on 28th June; 9-10am OR 4:30-5:30 – You DO NOT NEED TO ATTEND BOTH!

Step 2:

Transition visit from the staff to your child

If your child is already at a setting, a member of staff will arrange with the setting to visit them there so they can see them in their familiar environment. If your child does not attend a setting, a home visit from the staff is also available to you to start building the relationship with you and your child. This is optional, but we believe this supports transition well. We will contact you to arrange this.

Step 3:

Stay and Play Session

We are holding a stay and play session in Nursery. We would like to invite you and your child to visit Nursery on Tuesday 4th July from 9.30-11am OR 1-2:30pm to meet the staff, some of their new classmates and have a play in their new setting.

Step 4

1 hour nursery visit – Week commencing 10th July

We would like to invite you to bring your child to join us in nursery for an hour transition session. If your child will not settle, please do not worry, of course you can stay with them.

The nursery teacher will give you your specific date at the parent session on the 28th.

These events are designed to support you and your child to make the transition to nursery as easy as possible. We are not saying there won't be tears, however I can assure you we will look after them, and it will get easier!

Step 5

Staggered start- Week commencing 6th September (we have an inset day on the 4th and 5th) and week commencing 11th September

We choose staggered starts for nursery to allow the children to start in small groups so that more time can be spent with each child to support them settling in. If a later start will cause you an issue, please let us know and we will do our best to give them an earlier start.
